mann's eastern screech owl blog 2024

02/12/24 - and back again. . . (edited)

There has been encouraging activity since the last post, including a lot of resting and preening, a curious (and harassing) visitor, a few departures and arrivals, and another extended daytime stay. The exterior cam is back online; I watched and waited until the owl left the treehouse before using a noisy ladder to access the cam.

The chickadee is quite bold in his peak into the house to check out a potential predator. He and his pals in the nearby tree canopy shrieked at the owl for almost ten minutes before giving up. The eso changed position and posture in response, upright and ready. After they left, the owl settled back into puffed up snooze mode, head down. Will he or she return today?

Edit: chickadee photo now visible, their faces are about 6” apart. The small, robin sized owl showed patience and never flinched.
